Biography

Mrs. Allie Davis

Hello and welcome. My name is Jolene Davis.  As I want you and your child to feel very comfortable in the library, I would like to share a little about myself with you. I have been a Texas certified public school teacher since 1998.  This is my 25th year in the Texas education system. I have taught English classes from 5th grade to 12th grade. Prior to coming to Monahans High School 14 years ago, I began teaching at Pecos High School where I taught for 7 years.  From there, I moved to the Grandfalls Royalty School District where I taught for 3 years.  I loved teaching at both of these schools, but it had always been my dream to return to the school I graduated from and teach there, Monahans High School.  I graduated from MHS in 1992.

After graduating from MHS in 1992, I married my high school sweetheart. This past July, we celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary.  In the fall of 1992, I started college at Odessa College where I spent 2 years.  I maintained a 4.0 GPA and transferred to the University of Texas of the Permain Basin with the honor of Summa Cum Laude. In December of 1997, I graduated from UTPB with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature.  At the time of my college graduation, I already had a secretarial job and had no intention of changing careers. Out of the blue, the assistant superintendent from Pecos called me and asked me if I would consider teaching. Apparently, a woman I had graduated with had told him about me.  After careful consideration, I decided to take the job. It changed my life forever. At the time, I was not certified, but I was able to secure an emergency certification with the state, and I went on to complete an internship through UTPB to finish up all the requirements for teaching in the Texas Public School System.

In 2015, I began a journey to complete my Master’s Degree at Texas Women’s University.  I graduated with a Master’s in Library and Information Science on in 2017. During that fall semester, I completed my practicum in both the high school and junior high libraries where I was currently employed. While my heart will always belong in the English classroom, I also love being able to help students find a love for literature like I have.

I have 2 daughters of my own. My oldest daughter graduated from nursing school the same day I graduated from TWU. My youngest daughter recently graduated from King University in Bristol, TN. She will be returning this fall (2022) as their assistant cheer coach.

At home, I love to read, take pictures, and scrapbook in my spare time. I am especially fond of Nora Roberts and Barbara Cartland books. I have recently discovered on-line scrapbooking to create my own published books.  As well, I also write poetry. I have written over 400 poems, some of which have actually been published.

This year, I hope you will open your mind to the wonder of reading. Reading can take your mind, through imagery, to places you may never be able to go. You can learn so much if you are just willing to imagine and participate.

Here's wishing you a great 2022-2023 school year,

Mrs. Allie Davis
